Holy Cross Alumni Career Services Presents
Your Job Search Strategy:
How Can You Stand Out From the Crowd?
Hogan Campus Center
College of the Holy Cross
Thursday, October 10, 2013
6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
These are still uncertain times. As the economy recovers, employers are hiring. But, many of the “old rules” of job hunting no longer apply. The field is crowded with qualified job candidates. How do you stand out from this crowd?
If you are actively looking for your next opportunity, stuck in a job that is not taking you where you want to go, or simply thinking about “what else is out there,” you will want to come to this important program at Holy Cross on October 10, 2013.
We will cover the most effective ways to transition and achieve your goals. Setting realistic expectations and then executing well on a thoughtful and strategic plan is very important. Also, being open to transitioning your skills to more than one type of job or industry expands your options. This starts with knowing yourself well and crafting a strong personal brand - a brand that is distinctive, memorable and seeks to be a solution to the market that you are targeting. You will set yourself apart from your competition by positioning yourself as an investment that pays back.
Traditional networking is not effective, particularly in today’s job market. You will need to take a different approach in identifying and cultivating worthwhile relationships with decision-makers and influencers. Develop conversations and relationships . . . not just contacts and leads. Companies hire even as they lay off employees. Specific experience and skills will be needed. Staying optimistic with a plan that you apply with focus and discipline will be critical.
The workshop is presented by Michael Jeans ’70, Managing Director, New Directions, Inc.
New Directions is nationally recognized for their work in guiding accomplished men and women – senior level executives and professionals – who face significant career decisions, life changes or job transitions.
