HC Club of Metro NYC: Brooklyn Bridge Walking Tour

Holy Cross Club of Metro New York City
Brooklyn Bridge Walking Tour

Alumni, parents and friends are invited to a unique walking tour from Brooklyn Heights across the Brooklyn Bridge, one of New York's most storied landmarks.

Edward T. O'Donnell, Ph.D. '86, Holy Cross Associate Professor of History, will lead our group.

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Start:  6:30 p.m. in Brooklyn Heights

(corner of Henry & Clark Streets at the Clark Street Station; 2/3 subway)

Tour Cost:  $25.00 per person

On this trek, we'll learn about the Roebling family and their epic, 14-year effort to build the Brooklyn Bridge. We'll also explore the Bridge's design and architectural significance, as well as the many, many writers and artists it has inspired, from Hart Crane to Norman Mailer. And, of course, we'll see and talk about many landmarks visible from the Bridge, including the State of Liberty, the Woolworth Building, and Governors Island. If the weather is good, we'll be walking towards a beautiful sunset behind the Manhattan skyline.

The tour will end about 8:30 p.m. at The Beekman, a casual Irish pub located near City Hall Park. We'll relax and enjoy each other's company. Appetizers will be provided. Cash bar.
