Many Americans enthusiastically greeted the “Arab Spring” when it began in 2011. However, the movement has proved to be much more complicated and potentially threatening than it seemed in those optimistic days. Prof. Thomas will discuss the challenges the Arab Spring presents for U.S. foreign policy, including the ongoing civil war in Syria and the crisis involving the Assad regime’s chemical weapons.
